Break Da Bank Again Megaways: Slot Overview
Back when they were a bit more hands-on, developer Microgaming kicked off a movement when they released a safe cracking, money-grabbing themed slot titled Break Da Bank Again. Popular with players, there have been several further instalments, giving players new and updated ways to crack bank vaults. This entry sees Gameburger Studios have another crack, in Break Da Bank Again Megaways, which as the title suggests, is powered by the widespread Megaways game engine, on license from Big Time Gaming.
Right away, Break da Bank Again Megaways is a lot more modern looking than any of the other games in the series. Despite having extra reels and ways, the game grid has shrunk so players can take in more of the setting – a posh bank with so much rich stuff; it is literally spilling out onto the ground. A burglar wouldn't even need to crack the safe in this bank, just break in through a window and scoop gold coins up from the floor. Throughout the base game, the backing band sounds like it's in warm-up mode, having a laid back jam, before turning up the tempo for free spins to crank out an energetic heist track. Fans of previous Break da Bank/Break da Bank Again games will feel at home here while enjoying a clear audio-visual upgrade.
Players may use any device to break this bank while selecting stakes from 20 p/c to $/€20. The return to player was to be confirmed at the time of writing, but as a guide, when Gameburger did Break da Bank Respins, it was comfortably over 96%, and it's hard to see a major shift for Break da Bank Again Megaways. On the other hand, volatility has been clearly labelled as 'very high', and potential isn't bad either, so successful safecrackers can look forward to one of the most thrilling experiences in the series.
Break da Bank Again Megaways' game grid uses 6 main reels, holding between 2 and 7 symbols each, while a 4 symbol bonus reel sits up top in the middle. The number of symbols varies on each spin, producing between 64 and 117,649 ways to win. All symbols require at least three of a kind to pay out and link to previous Break da Bank Again slots as they are all the same. This means 10-A card icons, followed by coins, cheques, banknotes, gold bars, and purple gems. Premium values are pretty average, at 2 to 15 times the stake for a winning combination made up of six symbols.
Break Da Bank Again Megaways: Slot Features
Break da Bank Again Megaways does ride on name recognition to pull in punters rather than entice them with unique features. Most are standard Megaways extras such as Rolling Reels and free spins using a progressive win multiplier. Others that are not quite so common are wild multipliers, and three bonus buy options, though nothing Megaways enthusiasts won't have seen before.
Rolling Reels is the Microgaming name for the reaction feature commonly found in a Megaways game. When a winning combination hits, the Rolling Reels feature removes it from the grid, and symbols above the gaps fall to fill them in, possibly leading to repeat wins. Rolling Reels continues to accrue coin wins until no new combinations land.
The 5x symbol is wild and substitutes for all symbols except scatters. Wins involving one or more wild symbols are multiplied by 5. In the base game, wilds appear only on the upper extra reel, while in free spins, they land on the upper reel and anywhere on main reels 2, 3, 4, or 5.
To enter the vault where the bonus round takes place, you'll need to land 3 or 4 scatter symbols to win 10 or 15 free spins respectively. On top of free spins, a prize of 2x the bet is also awarded. Free spins are where an increasing win multiplier is active - starting at x1, and on every roll of the Rolling Reels it increments by 1. Scatters landing during the feature award 1, 2, 5, or 10 additional free spins when 1, 2, 3, or 4 are in view.
The Hot Mode Free Spins game can be awarded randomly from a 4 scatter trigger or by using the bonus buy option described below. This feature comes with the same features as regular free spins but with the key difference that the unlimited progressive multiplier starts at x20.
One more feature, where available, is the bonus buy. It comes with 3 choices – 10 free spins, 15 free spins, or Hot Mode, costing 100x, 130x, or 500x the bet. When buying 10 free spins, there is a chance a fourth scatter lands to pump it up to 15 spins instead. Hot Mode is 15 free spins where the increasing win multiplier starts on x20; other than that, the rules are the same.
Break Da Bank Again Megaways: Slot Verdict
There's a whole lot of bank-breaking going on if players are up for it since Break da Bank Again Megaways is the fifth one to date. To keep a series going so long requires a delicate balance between doing something new and keeping enough familiar bits for fans to lap up. Break da Bank Again Megaways manages to do this, but as a Megaways slot, it's nothing new. Gameburger has done a good job with the visuals, especially the cut scenes between paid and free spins, plus the free spins aftermath shower of gold is a nice way to celebrate a decent win. At the same time, Break da Bank Again Megaways links strongly with the series while having a somewhat old school look via its symbols.
Gaming wise, there's not much original happening in regards to features. The only hint of innovation is Hot Mode; if you are willing to cough up 500x the bet to start free spins with an x20 multiplier - a significant leg up, yet a major outlay to take advantage of it as well. Other than Hot Mode, it's Megaways business as usual, with just x5 wilds on hand to liven the base game. Again, it would have been nice if having more than one wild on a payline meant their values were multiplied or at least added.
There is an impression Break da Bank Again Megaways is riding on brand recognition more than anything else. If it didn't have the recognisable name, it would be easy to write the game off as an utterly average Megaways release. Ah well, that's the whole point of giving successful slots Megaways makeovers, and Break da Bank Again Megaways is sure to draw plenty of players keen to see how the conversion turned out.
Good
BDBA Megaways is a logical addition to the Break da Bank Again range of slots, though with nothing extraordinary to go crazy about.
