Firekick! MultiMax: Slot Overview
Players, come get your cheer on in Firekick! MultiMax, a football-themed online slot from software provider Yggdrasil Gaming. The MultiMax franchise continues to chug on and, so far, has proved to be quite entertaining. It started back in 2020 with the game Multifly!, which today's release, Firekick! MultiMax, has taken one or two cues from. Full disclosure, Firekick! MultiMax is actually a pretty close Mulitfly! reskin, with minor technical changes accompanying the graphical overhaul, rather than being a slot that really goes creatively mental with the MultiMax mechanic.
It was Lucious Malfoy who rudely said to the Potter party as they made their way to the top row of the stadium at the Quidditch World Cup - '...if it rains, you'll be the first to know'. The snowy-haired villain might say the same thing to players as they find their seats for Firekick! MultiMax. To be fair, from the top row, it's possible to take in Firekick! MultiMax's entire scene, which consists of first pumping cheering crowds, a pitch bathed in sunlight, and the game grid plonked in the middle. For football fans, Firekick! MultiMax is quite thrillingly presented, with a hard-ish house Slinky-era track providing the icing on the cake.
Statistically, Firekick! MultiMax is close to Multifly! with a couple of alterations. The default RTP, for one, is slightly less than before, now coming in at 96% flat, while volatility is high. As before, the gaming part of the deal takes place on a 5-reel, 3-row grid with 243 ways to land winning combinations of three to five of a kind across. Bet levels vary from 20 p/c to $/€75 per spin; the difference now is the presence of a bonus buy button for players who would prefer to leap into the bonus round for a price.
In the base and bonus game, winning combinations are created when matching symbols land from the left-hand side on at least three adjacent reels. For lows, Firekick! MultiMax has 9-A card ranks worth 0.5 to 0.8 times the stake for five-of-a-kind, and five football players as the premiums worth 2-4x the bet for five.
Firekick! MultiMax: Slot Features
Multifly!'s fame was partly built off its multiplier capabilities, which have returned for Firekick! MultiMax. The first thing to note is that each reel has its own individual Reel Multiplier, and each win triggers the Avalanche feature; Winning symbols are removed from the reels allowing symbols to drop down from above to fill the empty spaces. If a new win forms after the dropdown, the Avalanche process triggers again.
Wilds and Multipliers
After each Avalanche, a wild symbol is added to one of the empty positions, and the corresponding Reel Multiplier is increased. Wilds substitute for any regular pay symbols, and Reel Multipliers apply to all winning combinations on that reel. If more than one Reel Multiplier is used in a win, each multiplier is applied to the winning total one at a time - in other words, they are multiplied together before being applied. In the base game, Reel Multipliers reset between spins.
Free Spins
Landing 3, 4, or 5 scatter symbols awards 6, 8, or 10 free spins. After the feature triggers, players are given the chance to gamble for more free spins or collect what was awarded. To gamble, you pick the left or right side of a goal. Successful picks increase free spins (up to 11 in total), but unsuccessful picks lose everything. However, there is a chance that a losing gamble is converted to a winning one if the Firekick!! feature steps in to help you out. In free spins, Reel Multipliers do not reset.
Buy Bonus
One thing Firekick! MultiMax has that Multifly! did not is a bonus buy feature. It comes with one option, 6 free spins for the cost of 70x the bet. Once bought, players can choose to gamble for the chance to win more free spins or not.
Firekick! MultiMax: Slot Verdict
As if we didn't bang on about it enough, Firekick! MultiMax is very close to Multifly!, aside from footballers replacing reptiles and the game taking place in a stadium rather than the bush. Ergo, if the previous one got your pulse racing, there is a good chance Firekick! MultiMax will too. For those who missed out on the MultiMax experience so far, then Firekick! MultiMax is as good a place as any to check it out. Its multiplicative Reel Multipliers have the ability to power up a payout, and watching them apply their values to a win in sequential order can be fun.
There are potential niggles, however. The original game awarded 10 free spins right off the bat for landing 3 scatter symbols. Here you have to put in a bit of work to win that many (unless triggered by 5 scatters, of course) via the gamble feature. Work is not really the right word; luck is probably a better one. Buying free spins will be a welcome addition for certain people looking to fast-track the bonus round, but again, players get 6 free spins when buying them, which might be harder to gamble after forking out 70x the bet to top them up to 10 or 11. Swings and roundabouts, perhaps, but something to keep in mind if you can't decide which game to pick. Winning potential is the same for both games, at 10,000x the bet, so payout possibilities won't help people make up their minds.
All in all, Firekick! MultiMax is an ok repeat performance of the Multifly! experience set amidst a selection of a very different set of looks, sounds, and atmosphere. It gets the job done for the purpose it was built, namely as a World Cup release, but for those lukewarm to the sport, Firekick! MultiMax delivers a similar performance as before.
