Raging Rhino Rampage: Overview

The African plains not only spawned human life, but are also a fertile breeding ground for countless slots - on and offline. One of the most popular is iconic wildlife-themed Raging Rhino. A hit in physical casinos, it proved equally popular when it ended up online. The Megaways revamp was a welcome update, giving the beloved Rhino a more modern touch. Now the famed Rhino returns courtesy of SG Digital with a third online instalment in the range – Raging Rhino Rampage.

raging rhino rampage

Raging Rhino Rampage, like its predecessor, started life in real-world casino halls before being ported online. If you have happened to play the physical slot, you’ll be pleased to know this version looks the same - aside from a few peripheral changes. The golden grassed fields of Africa remain, as do the wide-open skies.

The default set up is a familiar one. There are 6 reels, 4 rows high, providing 4,096 ways to win. Players can spin Raging Rhino Rampage on any device, selecting stakes of 40 p/c to $/€20 per spin. Not exactly the best option for those looking to stretch a tight bankroll. However, you do get some pretty decent stats for your investment, starting with the all-important RTP, rated here as 96.20%.

Hits are fairly steady too, coming at a rate of one in 3.321 spins. One alteration, technically speaking, is that volatility has been dialled down. Despite the use of the word ‘Rampage’, this Raging Rhino is medium volatile, a far cry from the original’s notoriously high setting.

Bringing players back to familiar territory is the paytable where you’ll find 11 regular pay symbols. Starting with the low pays, there are 9-A royals, adorned by little crowns, flags, and diamonds betraying their physical origins. Next up are five residents of the wild – a badger, a croc, a gorilla, a cheetah, and a rhino.

The rhino pays out on 2-6 of a kind, whereas all other symbols require at least three on a payline to constitute a winner. Pop on shades before staring at the blazing sun behind the acacia tree wild. This icon lands on reels 2 to 5 only, substituting for any symbol except the scatter.

Raging Rhino Rampage: Features

Up till now you might be wondering, yeah, and? Well, here the game makes a sharp diversion from the previous two before it. There are several extra features justifying the ‘Rampage’ word in the title.

First is Expanding Reels, which seem to be popular at the moment. On any spin, two or more reels may randomly increase up to 6 positions in height. After that spin, they reset to their default size for the next one.

Also appearing at random on any spin, two or more reels may be replaced with Stampeding Reels. Extra rhino symbols appear on Stampeding Reels, which are reset at the beginning of the next spin.

To get to the most exciting parts of Raging Rhino Rampage, you’ll need the help of the diamond scatter. When 3, 4, 5, or 6 land anywhere in view, players are awarded 5, 8, 15, or 20 free spins. Before free spins commence, players are presented with the Wheel feature. Here it is possible to win extra spins (up to 50), or one of the three jackpots – the Mini, Minor and the Major which award 1,000, 10,000, or 100,000 times the coin value respectively. The wheel keeps spinning until it lands on ‘Start’, then free spins begin.

During free spins, any wild involved in a win multiplies it by x2 or x3. The round can also be extended when 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 scatters appear to award 5, 8, 15, or 20 additional free games.

The bonus game hits on average once every 160 spins, but for those who don’t want to wait, WMS has added a Buy Pass button – where available. This option costs 75x the stake for 5 free games, increasing the RTP to 96.70%. When the bonus buy is activated, the Expanding Reels may increase up to 8 positions high, creating up to 262,144 ways to win. Alternatively, players may gamble to buy the feature at a reduced rate.

Raging Rhino Rampage: Verdict

It might look pretty much the same, but Raging Rhino Rampage is very different to the previous two slots that came before. The original Raging Rhino was a notoriously volatile slot, not for the faint-hearted. SG Digital has toned the math model down while ramming on several extra features. It still feels like playing the physical version though, so if you can’t make it to your local for whatever reason and craving some Raging Rhino Rampage, the online is a solid enough alternative. On a positive note, SG Digital have learned their lesson from the technical failures of Raging Rhino Megaways, making Raging Rhino Rampage a much more pleasant game to play - it's smooth, runs flawlessly, and breathes quality.

The additional features expand the African experience for those who appreciate a bit of variety. However, some fans of the original might feel like it’s all a bit too much fluff. Either way, there’s positive news if you’re after sizeable wins. The maximum that can be won is 250,000, or 12,500x the max bet which makes Raging Rhino Rampage a desirable choice as far as potential goes. As it stands, Raging Rhino Rampage is a surprisingly good alternative to the original that most fans of the original will be able to get behind.

Good

It might look practically identical to the original, but Raging Rhino Rampage is a different beast altogether and one that provides plenty of thrills.
