Vikings Go To Valhalla: Slot Overview

They've been wild, berserk, and gone to hell, now Gunnar and crew are off to one of the ultimate Viking destinations – Valhalla. Valhalla is a hall in Asgard, ruled by Odin and is where half of those who die in battle end up, escorted by Valkyries at death. Up there, warriors do glorious deeds by day, and are healed at night to do them all over again the next day. If you've played one of the previous Vikings Go slots from Yggdrasil then you'll know there is plenty of fighting going on. In Vikings Go To Valhalla, heroes fight the snake king Jormungandr for the right to become sticky wilds and are joined by features such as Rage Collections, Berserk Respins, two Free Spin rounds, and a Ragnarok Wheel.

If Vikings Go To Valhalla is anything to go by, Valhalla the hall is located in a coldly mountainous place. However, the types of people who end up there are unlikely to be bothered by a bit of chilly weather. Four examples of these rough 'n ready warriors sit at the bottom of the screen beneath the reels, and certain fans of the series will be stoked to see Rage Meters are back. The graphics might not be quite as detailed as Vikings Go Berserk Reloaded was, but there's a reassuring continuation of the series, with a bunch of new bits to discover wedged in for good measure.

Vikings Go To Valhalla slot

Like previous entries in the series, Vikings Go To Valhalla is played on a 5-reel, 4-row game grid, with 25 fixed paylines which pay from left to right. Any device may be used to get your berserk on, and bets range from 25 p/c to $/€50 per spin, with three bonus buy options on hand for applicable users. Yggdrasil has kept volatility high, as well as potential, while the theoretical return value comes in at 96%. Hit rate reaches 21.73%, with the bulk of those being low-value symbols, so don't expect to max out Rage Meters super often.

The low-value symbols are four variously coloured coins, where five of them on a payline is worth 1.4 to 2 times the stake. Next are the four Viking character symbols, and landing five of them across a payline is worth a payout of 6 to 10 times the bet. Lastly, wilds, however they appear in the game, substitute for all regular pay symbols.

Vikings Go To Valhalla: Slot Features

Vikings Go To Valhalla has something for a variety of gambler types, from those who favour collection systems to those who prefer to straight-up buy a bonus round and cut straight to the rumbling. Let's take a look.

Viking Battles

On any non-base game spin, whenever Viking symbols hit, they fight Jormungandr. If the Viking wins, they turn into a sticky wild for the remainder of the specific feature. If they lose the fight, they stay as regular paying symbols. Vikings in Berserk mode always win their fight.

Rage Meter & Berserk Respins

Each Viking has an associated Rage Meter. Landing winning combinations of 3, 4, or 5 Viking symbols in length adds 1, 2, or 3 points to the associated meter, respectively. When a Viking has collected 16 Rage Points, Berserk Respins are triggered. The Viking that triggered respins is Berserk for the full duration. Respins continue to trigger until no battles are won or if every position is a sticky wild. At the start of the game, new players start with 8 Rage Points on one Viking.

Free Spins

Landing 3, 4, or 5 free spin symbols in the base game awards 7, 14, or 21 free spins. Before they begin, a special set of reels spin to award up to 4 extra bonuses. Bonuses can be a random Viking in Berserk mode, 1-2 extra free spins, a sticky wild in a random position, a sticky wild reel, or extra chests on reel 5.

Ragnarok Wheel

When free spins end, players spin the Ragnarok Wheel. The wheel has 6 reels with black and gold segments that spin independently. If the outer reel lands on a gold segment, the next inner reel of the wheel spins. Hitting a gold segment on all 6 levels triggers Ragnarok Free Spins. When a wheel lands on a black segment, it turns gold, increasing the odds next time.

Ragnarok Free Spins

When Ragnarok Free Spins are won or bought, 7 free spins are awarded with an x1 multiplier. Here, all four Vikings are in Berserk Mode for the full feature, so they always win their battle and turn into sticky wilds when they land.

Treasure Chest

Treasure chest symbols are present only on the rightmost reel and can land at any stage of the game:

  • When one lands in the base game, players can win 2x-500x the bet, 7-21 free spins, or Ragnarok Free Spins.
  • If it lands in free spins, players can win 2x-500x the bet, 2-4 extra free spins, random wild reel, or an extra wild.
  • If the chest hits in Ragnarok Free Spins, players collect 2x-500x the bet, 2-4 extra free spins, or +1 to the win multiplier.

Buy Bonus

Clicking the Buy Bonus button, if it's there, presents players with three options. For 7x the bet, you can buy a spin on the Ragnarok Wheel, 80x the bet buys you regular Free Spins, or 330x the bet gets you Ragnarok Free Spins. At the end of bought free spins or Ragnarok Spins, players spin the Ragnarok Wheel.

Vikings Go To Valhalla: Slot Verdict

Yggdrasil's Vikings Go range is one of the most popular Norse series out there, and after test running Vikings Go To Valhalla, it's not hard to see why. The studio has brought back things which helped make previous instalments so enjoyable, and added a few new parts to create a game that should thrill followers of the series. Vikings Go Berserk Reloaded controversially removed Rage Meters, and while it didn't hurt the game's overall appeal, it is nice to see them back. What's intriguing is Rage Meters now lead to something different, while out there on the horizon is the lure of Ragnarok Spins.

In doing things this way, a grinding element has wormed its way back which may excite some players as much as it turns off others. It's not all hard slog, though, since Rage Meters trigger respins when they are full, though getting a really good sticky wild situation going might be tough. Regular Vikings can win their battles with Jormungandr, so it's certainly not impossible. Despite the entertaining sideshows of free spins and respins, the main quest is to muscle your way into Ragnarok Free Spins. Technically, this is possible to do organically, but unless you are exceptionally lucky, there is a chance it will take a considerable amount of time to achieve. Since spinning the Ragnarok Wheel only happens after free spins, and you need all six reels to hit gold segments, it's not easy. After a while, buying Ragnarok Free Spins was just too much of a temptation. Having all four Vikings in Berserk mode can lead to a grid smothered in sticky wilds, churning out repeat win pandemonium. Yet, full screens of even the top premium aren't massively valuable, and increasing the win multiplier isn't easy either, so hitting Vikings Go To Valhalla's max multiplier 23,634x the bet is a considerable task, albeit a rewarding one for those who achieve it.

While the reintroduction of Rage Meters signals a return to Vikings Go's former ways, Vikings Go To Valhalla is a different kettle of fish. If you're not going to buy bonuses, it might pay to get comfy because there is a good chance a substantial measure of time and effort will be required to see Vikings Go To Valhalla finer moments. However, there's a stack of good stuff to enjoy along the way, such as Berserk Respins, Treasure Chests, and Ragnarok Wheel teases, making Vikings Go To Valhalla another hugely entertaining addition to the range.

Great

Vikings Go To Valhalla relives the glory days of the past while a few tweaks lead the series into exciting new territory.
